In solidarity with abolition and anti-racist movements, the following EPD: Society and Space articles on racism, racialization, and policing are free to access through September 2020. We will continue to use our resources to support critical scholarship on these topics.
We are delighted to announce that Mimi Sheller, Professor of Sociology and Director of the Center for Mobilities Research and Policy at Drexel University, will give the Society and Space lecture at the 2018 AAG meeting in New Orleans.
Over the past several years, former Society and Space Editor Stuart Elden has been working with Sage on a Society and Space book series, which is linked to the journal. There are several books under contract or in discussion, with the first two volumes due to be published very soon. The series description is as follows:
Welcome to the new Society & Space! This site replaces societyandspace.com, which was founded in 2011 by the editors of the international and interdisciplinary academic journal Environment and Planning D: Society and Space as an open access companion to the print publication.
Professor Saba Mahmood (University of California, Berkeley) delivered the Society and Space plenary lecture at the Association of American Geographers meeting on March 31, 2016. Below is a video of her talk, titled “Secularism, Sovereignty, and Religious Difference: A Global Genealogy?”
Some months ago, we announced the departure of Stuart Elden and the arrival of Alexander Vasudevan and Darshan Vigneswaran as Editors of Society and Space. We now have many more changes in our team to announce, including changes in Editors, Review Editors, and Editorial Board members.
In June, we announced the sad Society and Space news that long-time editor of the journal, Stuart Elden, had stepped down. Today, we have happier news as two new editors join our editorial collective: Alexander Vasudevan and Darshan Vigneswaran.
We are delighted to announce that Eyal Weizman will give the Society and Space 30th anniversary lecture at the Royal Geographical Society annual conference at the University of Edinburgh on 3rd July 2012 (conference details here). The talk will appear in the journal later in the year.
